Ask Maria:

Q: What are The Four Planes of Development? And does it involve air travel?

A: I’ve defined four stages of human development and labeled them “The Four Planes of Development.” Through years of observation I’ve noted that within these stages the development is intense at the beginning, consolidates, and then tapers to the next. The first and third planes are creative periods of intense acquisition of skills and knowledge, while the second and fourth planes are the calmer periods of consolidation where skills and knowledge are absorbed and made one’s own. The key to all the planes of development is the individual’s need for independence which is expressed differently throughout the planes (each lasting approximately six years) and is exhibited by their own special characteristics. SPMA offers developmentally aligned education during three of these four planes. No, air travel is not involved, but the journey is thrilling just the same.
