The Art Department Needs Your Good Garbage!
We will be starting a study of Environmental Sculpture on Tuesday, February 22nd after Opera Week and President’s Day Holiday (Monday, February 21st).
Please collect recyclable material such as cans, plastic bottles, yogurt containers, juice and soda bottles, spray bottles, TP and paper towel cores, and paint cans. Anything will work. Think large and small. Think thin and flexible or thick and blocky. The objects need to be clean, dry non-perishable and easily attachable by paper-mâché, glue or tape. If objects are too heavy to attach, think of them as a foundational or stuctural elements.
Look for objects that inspire the children to create from its shape or colors, not its original purpose. For examples: a spray bottle as a crane’s head and beak or a milk carton as a school bus. Stretch your imaginations to find the beings that live in your trash! There will collection bins at the front of the school and on the porch of the Visible Sound studio for deposits.
Also, the Art Department is in much need of duct tape, flexible wire, chicken wire, all-purpose flour and newspaper for this project. Please send these in with your trash treasures.
Parents who would like to help the children on assembly, possible needing drills and nails, are much sought after. Please email me for further information.
Thank you!
Sarah Perry, Art Teacher
