South Carolina Scarecrow Forest Walkabout & Harvest Moon Celebration on Saturday, October 22nd

On Saturday, October 22nd from 12:30 to 3 pm Sea Pines Montessori Academy will be hosting a South Carolina Scarecrow Forest Walkabout in the Forest Preserve in Sea Pines (map – look for Fish Island, Lake Joe and the Indian Shell Ring*).

Enjoy an exhibition of scarecrows and folk art “South Carolina” style created by SPMA students as you walk through the Forest Preserve on a trail from Fish Island to the Indian Shell Ring. Admission is $5 per family with all proceeds going to the Forest Preserve Restoration Fund. An additional $5 Sea Pines Gate Pass required to enter Sea Pines Plantation. Special fees may apply to certain activities and refreshments.

Fall crafts, snacks, story telling, education and more will make for a fun outing for adults and children of all ages! For more information call (843) 785-2534. Dogs on leashes welcome! Tickets available at the event or at Burke’s Main Street Pharmacy.

And for the evening, a Harvest Moon Celebration Dinner & Auction will take place on Saturday, October 22nd from 7 to 10 pm at the Sea Pines Forest Preserve Fish Island.

Put on your boots and blue jeans for a Low Country Buffet with all the fixins’ and dance the night away with Charleston’s favorite Blue Grass Band, Bob Sachs & The Maniax. Tickets are $45 per person. An additional $5 Sea Pines Gate Pass required to enter Sea Pines Plantation.

From The Smokehouse, there will be pulled pork, smoked chicken, garden salad, cole slaw, macaroni & cheese, and cornbread.

From DelisheeeYo, there will be a field green salad, mixed grain salad and an edamame salad.

Additionally there will be oysters roasting, beer, wine, iced tea (sweet & unsweet) and water. For dessert there will be s’mores and Moonpies!

* Driving Directions to the Sea Pines Forest Preserve: From the back gate of Sea Pines Plantation (Cordillo entrance), come in the gate and proceed on North Sea Pines Drive to Lawton Road. Turn right onto Lawton Road and proceed past Hilton Head Preparatory School. At the next right, turn right on to Lawton Canal Road then take an immediate left on to Lawton Canal Road and drive past the water treatment plant (South Island Public Service District). Drive until you see a sign that reads “Sea Pines Forest Preserve Entrance.” Turn right and proceed down the dirt road until you see signs to Fish Island. There will be parking attendents at the bridge guiding you where to park. Park and then walk over the bridge and look for signs to the Indian Shell Ring. SPMA teachers will be all around to assist if you need help.
