Sensorial
Montessori sensorial materials help the child classify and understand all that he takes in through his senses. Each of the sensorial materials isolates one defining quality — such as texture, size, shape, color, smell, length, height, width, distance, direction, roughness, smoothness, or sound. The child’s full attention is focused on that quality.

Any child who develops a strong sensorial foundation during his age-sensitive period for this type of learning becomes a very aware person with keen powers of observation and perception. These refined senses will give the child not only a greater ability to recognize and discriminate items, but will also add to the enjoyment of the world around him.
As the curriculum advances, the sensorial aspect is explored in many other different areas including global studies and geography, social studies and history, plant study (botany), animal study (zoology), and physical science.
