Primary
Ages 2.5-6 / This includes the Kindergarten year
Our Primary Program is a multi-age setting that offers children a carefully prepared environment where they live, learn, and grow together. In the Montessori classroom, we follow each child and support their developing intellect and independence. Through orderly teacher-presented lessons with beautiful didactic materials, the child progresses through the curriculum at their own pace. Older children have a unique opportunity to develop strong leadership skills while younger children have older role models who set the tone for a caring community.
Three Year Cycle
The Primary program is a three-year cycle which includes the kindergarten year. Children are given the gift of three years to be introduced to, practice, and master the curriculum materials. Over three years, children are exposed to lessons that build their order, coordination, and concentration leading them to independence.
Disordered to Ordered
The Primary Room is where a child moves from being undisciplined to self-disciplined, from disordered to ordered, from distracted to focused, through working in the environment. This process occurs through repeated work with materials that captivate the child’s attention.
Self-Control & Exploration
These early years of practicing self-control, exploration, and peaceful-conflict resolution form the foundation for the coming elementary years in which self-directed research and interest in the community become an important focus of the curriculum.
Great Joy in Learning
The Montessori classrooms are “living” rooms for children. Children choose their work from among the self-correcting materials displayed on open shelves, and they work in specific subject areas. Over time, the children further their work, developing high concentration and few interruptions.
